The inhabitants of this 'journal' are as follows:
The Sorting Hat: (worn, pointed and patched hat, in the Headmaster's office)
Originally the pointed wizard's hat of Godric Gryffindor, the Sorting Hat was bewitched by all four of the founders of Hogwarts with brains and some amount of personality. Its function is to determine which of the four Houses each new student will enter. The hat is battered and old; it's patched, frayed, and extremely dirty. In order to speak and sing, a tear along the brim opens like a mouth. It speaks inside of the hat with a small, quiet voice to the wearer and it can read thoughts and respond to them. When not sorting students, the Sorting Hat rests on its stool in Dumbledore's office.
According to Nearly-Headless Nick, who's been around a long time as the Gryffindor House ghost, the Sorting Hat feels itself honor-bound to give due warning when it detects great danger for the school. Nick says he's heard it happen several times before, and that the advice is always the same: "Stand together, be strong from within."
Sir Cadogan: (painting, seventh floor corridor)
Sir Cadogan is a little knight whose picture hangs in a seventh-floor corridor near the South Tower. He is a silly fellow whose bravura outshines his commons sense and who glories in quests and challenges. Sir Cadogan spent some time guarding the Gryffindor Common Room after Sirius Black attacked the Fat Lady (he was the only painting brave enough to take the job). He thought up ridiculous passwords and changed them on a daily basis. He challenged people to duels whenever they would try to enter or leave through the portrait hole. Sir Cadogan has a huge sword and a little fat pony. He chased after Harry when Sir Cadogan's picture was hanging on a landing near the North Tower and the Divination classroom, but was stopped in his pursuit when he entered a picture which had a large and angry-looking wolfhound in it. He was also active in cheering Harry on during the Battle of Hogwarts.
Nearly Headless Nick: (Gryffindor ghost)
Nearly Headless Nick is the nickname of the ghost of Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington, a wizard who died in a botched execution on October 31, 1492 (CS8). He was hit forty-five times in the neck with a blunt axe, but a half-inch of skin and sinew remained connecting his head to the rest of his body. Nick wears a doublet, a dashing plumed hat, and a tunic with a ruff to hide the fact that his head is nearly severed.

The Bloody Baron: (Slytherin ghost)
The Bloody Baron is a grim, silent, terrifying fellow who is covered with bloodstains. He is never heard to speak, although Harry does impersonate him once, using a hoarse whisper. No one is quite sure about the source of the bloodstains, and no one dares ask. Peeves, who respects the Baron for some unknown reason, calls him "Your Bloodiness" and "Mr. Baron."
And anyone else who needs to be NPC'd for a bit of fun!
